At last!
Harry Potter is coming to the Internet!

For almost five years now J.K. Rowling's famous Harry Potter series has beguiled and charmed children and adults alike with its incredible tales of the boy wizard, Harry Potter, and his amazing adventures at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. For some reason, though, Scholastic Books Inc., which publishes the series, has not made the book available for free online. Probably this has something to do with copyrights and royalties and all that, but the fact remains that many people would like to have an e-texts of the Harry Potter novels. Probably this has something to do with high cover prices, and shipping and handling fees.

But now, inspired by the successful "Lord of the Rings" e-text, a commtitted group of Harry Potter fans at the Harry Potter Project are undertaking the monumental task of bringing the books to the Internet. (Actually, only a handful of us are involved so far, but we'd love to get help.) By working together, drinking too much Coke and typing into the wee hours of the morning so that we can't get up until the wee hours of the afternoon the next day, devotees of Rowling's works can create a downloadable electronic text for this work. We still recommend you get a copy of the book to experience the full effect, but if you flat-out refuse to buy the Harry Potter series in print form, you finally will be ablt to get the copy you deserve.

Feel free to begin reading or downloading, this transcription as you please! But before you do, remember to send your royalty check directly to Scholastic Books.

Please note: Slight deviations from the original text are inevitable. Do not under any circumstances use this as a definitive version of Rowling's works. (Hint to the obvious-impaired: This is going to be a parody, not a work of plagiarism.)
